There is one thing that you can do on a hot summer day in Cyprus. You can pay a visit to the only underwater forest in the area! I will explain to how to visit MUSAN, have fun, and stay safe.
Go by yourself for free
If you are a good swimmer and you have your scuba diving goggles and everything, then you can just go for a swim. But first, be sure that you visit the office of MUSAN there at the beach and talk to the guys.
Tony, one of the people that are there to help, explained to me that if you want to go by yourself, all you have to do is swim there then follow the path between the buoy in the sea in, a straight line, and you will see all you have to see.
Also, you have some platforms to rest a little bit just in case you get tired and need to gain your straight to come back to the shore.
His advice and mine also is not to go alone. The more the safer I think.
What time of the day is it good to visit?
The best time to visit is in the morning, until lunchtime. Visibility in the water is the best then, and besides, it’s not too windy either.
That means the sea is calm, too. It is usually windy in the afternoon in Ayia Napa and the conditions are not the best for snorkeling, to say the least.
The schedule of the MUSAN office on the beach is from 9.00 to 5.00 daily, in case you want additional information.
How to visit MUSAN by boat
If you don’t want to go by yourself and you think that the more, the merrier, then you can go with the boat.
There is one leaving from Ayia Napa harbor every day, between 9:30 and 10:00 in the morning. It will take about 5 minutes to get there and then you will have almost one hour to snorkel around on top of the underwater forest here.
It cost 25 euros and you will receive the snorkeling equipment.
The person responsible, Takis, said that if you are not very sure that you can do it, then you can receive a life vest, so you can enjoy the experience.
Scuba diving at MUSAN
If you are a certified diver, then go for it. It is free, interesting and you should visit the place at least one time.
If you are familiar with the scuba diving thing but you don’t have a license, then you have to contact one of the many companies in the area that are specialized in this. They can take you there for a price.
If you are a total beginner, then you have to find a company that will take you first for a trial diving, Tony from MUSAN explain to me, and then, if they see that you can handle it, you can go visit the museum.
