Donkey! Who doesn’t like these cute animals? And if you’re coming to Cyprus, then you’re coming to the island where years ago this was the way people were moving around.
Now you can see donkeys at the Donkey farm, not too far from Larnaca. And the best way, actually the only way to get there, I think is with a car.
And since the day I decided to go and visit this place, my car decided to take a break, I used one from D.A. Europe Car. Now, don’t tell anything to my old car, but I did enjoy the trip.
Back to our donkeys now. This farm is next to Skarinou village, and if you check on the map, it might look like is the middle o nowhere, but the road to get there is in very good condition and has plenty of signs to guide you. Basically, you can’t get lost on your way there. Just make sure you put the GPS when you’re leaving.
What animals you’ll find at the Donkey Farm
They have there lots of donkeys and they look like they are really being taken care of. Males, females and even baby donkeys. From what I saw, your kids can even ride one if they want to.
Then, they have there some very cute small goats who will come and say hello to you and wait for your kids to feed them some grass from the premises. Your kids can also see chickens and turkeys and there is a playroom to enjoy it.
Museums at Donkey Farm
They also have there a few rooms where they made a museum, and you can see how the Cypriots used to live in the villages. The way their houses used to look and how they occupied their time.
You can eat there
The place is not very big, the yard is well maintained and with lots of trees to keep you shadow if you go to visit in the summer. And if you get hungry, there is a restaurant, and for 15 euros you can have whatever you want from the buffet area.
Gift shop
At the entrance you will find a gift shop from where you can buy a souvenir or a cosmetic product made with donkey milk from the farm. You can try the donkey milk liqueur (it is nice) and many other local products.
The place’s history
The Golden Donkey’s Farm in Skarinou is a family business started in 2014, when they opened the gates for the people to come and see the donkeys and the goal is to save as many of these animals as possible.
60 years ago there were 100,000 donkeys in Cyprus and now we have only 1,000 left.

There is a small entrance fee we have to pay to get to see the donkeys:

How to get there
As I said, the easiest way to get there is with a rented car, like I did, and you can give a try to D.A. Europe Car. It is a smaller company with very good customer service, based in Larnaca.

To get to Golden Donkey’s Farm you have to take the exit from the motorway to get to Skarinou village, between Larnaca and Limassol, and all you have to do is pay attention to the signs these people put everywhere. It is the easiest way to get there.
And this place is just e few minutes drive from a famous destination in Cyprus, Lefkara village.
