Snow in Cyprus is a reality. Can you imagine spending half a day at the beach or watching flamingos and the other half making snowballs or walking in the snow? Then your imagination can come true if you visit Cyprus from December till February.
The first snow in Cyprus can come sometime in December, and it means the weather got cold sooner than we expected. And like this, we can have a white Christmas and New Year’s Eve, like the one now in 2024.
200C at the beach, a little over 00C up in Troodos
I lived it, so I know it is true. I started my day with sun and almost t-shirt weather, and not even 50 km from the shore, I was freezing. Because of course I was not wearing the right clothes to play in the snow.
So, my advise to you, IF you know there is snow in the mountains and you have plans to go there, take more clothes with you in the car, and wear the right shoes. Trust me, if you don’t do it, you will regret it.
You need to know that:
📌 The snow in Troodos is usually just a few centimeters thick and will not last for too long.
📌 When it’s snowing, the mountain roads will be closed for a short period because the cars on the island are not equipped for this kind of weather.
📌 If it is a good winter it will snow many times starting as soon as December and until late February.
📌 When it is snowing, it gets cold all over the island, and you can “smell” the snow in the air.
Get your gear ready for snow
Once you get to mount Olympus, get ready to ski, slide or just enjoy the snow. You can even check the live camera to see the weather conditions.
The Mount Olympus Ski resort it is operated by Cyprus Ski Club.
On their website you will find if any of the sky piste are operational or not. And remember you can hire from there what you need to ski.

Mount Olympus
Olympus, or Chionistra, at 1,952 meters (6,404 ft), is the highest point in Cyprus. When you go to visit the rea, first stop usually is at Troodos Square, for a walk and eventually a bit of shopping at the kiosks there. My advise, don’t miss the nuts in sugar coating with different flavor. They are delicious.
